In recent years, many equestrians having found having separate seasonal barns to deal with the two extremes works the best.  Especially for the show horses and working horse ranches.  Horse facilities will have a stable built in a lower area that blocks off some of the howling north winds of winter.  Then have another barn built on a hill so to capture the colling prevailing winds of summer.  They move the horses with the season changes.
